New Sevyn Streeter/Justine Skye/Kelly Rowland! #MusicMonday

Hello All! For today’s #MusicMonday, I wanted to feature three very talented ladies who have new music that’s been on rotation, all released in February!

First, I have to give it up to Sevyn Streeter for her new song, Guilty, featuring Chris Brown and A$AP Ferg; I have literally listened to that song so much and even learned the choreography she posted online (it’s also a weight loss strategy) so it’s a win! Guilty is about 2 people in love, but unfortunately, they have a situation at home, uh oh! Sevyn brings a classic James Brown sample from his song, The Payback (1981), it’s really a smooth mix honestly, and I love when people do justice to classics! Sevyn is currently working on a new album, she’s released at least 5 singles in the past 2 years, so I’m supposing it’s really on the way. I love great music, but also recognize the industry, and Sevyn has said this herself, along with Kelly Rowland and many others that the industry discriminates against brown and dark skinned women. So I encourage you all to stream and share and show some love to these sisters, and it’s so easy because the music is so good, and Sevyn never misses! She is a singer, songwriter, dancer, and has written hits for many others! Sevyn has also said that her label has had her give up songs to artists that are white or white Latina because their look can sell the song, wild! Talent is talent, and I love Sevyn! Let’s show Sevyn some love and stream Guilty.

The next song is from Ms. Kellendria Rowland herself, lol, I know her stage name is Kelly, I just really like her full name, Kellendria. Anyway, many people know Kelly just gave birth to her 2nd child, well, in the video, she shows off the last stages of her pregnancy so beautifully as she sings about her love for her husband, giving him his Flowers for all the times he’s been there. She talks about the ups and downs of their love that has made them better, so sweet!. It is a slow, almost acapella ballad with strong but subtle sounds of a guitar, while her voice is the main instrument on the track. I like it for a chill moment, it’s a song that has a lot of emotion and one that you’ll definitely pay attention and listen to once you hear it. Take some time to stream Flowers and show Kelly some love!

I heard this song as I was searching through YouTube, I was so disappointed that Spotify didn’t tell me my homegirl had a new song. Well, I don’t really know her but Spotify knows I listen to Justine Skye all the time. Little sis has a new song, Intruded, produced by none other than Timbaland himself. Timbaland is super producer who is in his own lane in my opinion, since I was a kid in the 90’s. Intruded talks about falling in love with someone, and her not wanting to hide it anymore, and intruding his heart with her love. The video is giving me Missy Elliot, The Rain, from back in the day. I can only imagine that Since Timbaland and Missy are like brother and sister, the dynamic duo inspired Justine to make this video, just my observation.

Also, even though this is not a new song, in honor of my song, 400, that came out last year this time, February 2020, is a history lesson and advice moving forward for Black people as we ended our 400 years of captivity. Well, tonight’s topic for the 7th class of the Dear Black People™ Webinar Series is “400 Years is Up”. I talk about the history and implication behind this very meaning. So take some time to listen to my self produced song, then register for tonight and tomorrow night!

Have a wonderful day!
