#Throwback Black History Month Blog Post: Electric Slide

Hello All! I figured since it’s Music Monday, and I am in a dancing mood, I would feature a throwback blog post I did on the Electric Slide. Created by a Black woman, Marcia Griffith, it was the number one dance song in the world for 10 years! Everyone knows that til’ this day, the Electric Slide is done at 99% of Black functions, it brings us together! I even find that, we do the Electric Slide to songs that aren’t even the electric slide, LOL! Someone at some point is going to get up and start the electric slide, guaranteed! Think about the things that bring us together as Black people, and, enjoy the video! Better days are ahead. Register for the Dear Black People™ Webinar Series as well to learn more ways we can bring ourselves together, it’s time! Enjoy!

CULTURE TUESDAYS

The Electric Slide is a four wall dance set to Marcia Griffith’s song “Electric Boogie”. Choreographer Ric Silver created the dance in 1976 from a demo of the Marcia Griffiths recording with the original choreography having 22 steps. The Electric Slide now with 18 steps went viral in 1989 and was listed by Linedancer Magazine as the number one dance in the world for 10 years!
