Ripsaw is a genre of music that originates in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The genre uses the hand saw as the primary instrument, along with drums,

and accordion. The saw is played by scraping what is usually an old knife blade, along the saw’s teeth. The sound almost sounds like paper being ripped, and is believed to be where the term ripsaw came from. Rake-and-scrape comes from the method used by a player to create sound from the saw.
