On May 13, 1888, Brazil became the last country in the western hemisphere to abolish slavery. The infamous “Golden Law” was signed, that emphasized that there were no conditions that freed slaves were being held to. Today, many Afro-Brazilians reside in Brazil, and though they face many inequalities, their voices of justice are becoming bolder, louder, and making change; especially amongst Brazil’s black women.
